In 2016, I ran the Grand Rapids Foster Swift Half Marathon (part of the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon). When asked to redesign a wayfinding system, I thought of the event, which was confusing to me as a new runner and could be improved overall. I thought of how the mile marker signage could be better designed to indicate aid stations. In the process, I redesigned the logo to be more synonymous with GR, which is why it includes the iconic sculpture, La Grande Vitesse by Alexander Calder. I then thought of an app that would also help with an interactive map that would connect your music and mileage tracking in one easy app. Thinking of future applications for the app, it could be marketed and updated with different maps to coordinate with other marathons around the country.
